400 Uasin Gishu Nurses Set To Join Finish Universities

Another set of youths from Uasin Gishu County is set to be admitted to various Finish Universities to study medicine-related courses.

Already a delegation from Laurea University and Edu Excellence Helsinki Metropolitan University are in the county for interviews and selection of students that will be flying out soon.

The County Government of Uasin Gishu had last month advertised for nurses willing to study in Finland to submit their application.

Dateline for applications submission was February 28, 2022.

On Thursday, March 3, 2022, the delegation led by Dr. Jan-Markus Holm paid a visit to Governor Jackson Mandago where they discussed a number of issues.

Among the discussions was the need to scale up the program to other sectors.

“We have had fruitful discussions with partners to expand and upscale this program to other professions,” Mandago said.

He noted that they agreed to partner in training related to the medical sector due to the need for enhanced human resources that would help in the rollout of Universal Health Care.

With the training already showing good results, the county boss says the partnership is set to be expanded.

Under the current program, 400 nurses will be selected to study in Finland.

“Finish education is one of the best and we want to benefit from international experience and improve our healthcare.”

Governor Mandago.

He also hinted at discussions that will see the Finish Universities partner with the Kenya Medical Training Colleges (KMTC) so as to help improve and ensure there is sufficient human resource in the health sector.

The governor further noted that before his term comes to an end, he will be making a visit to Finland with a gubernatorial candidate that will clinch the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket – a move aimed at ensuring the continuation of the program to the next government.

“We want to create a sustainable program and a person who will get the UDA ticket is almost assured of being the next governor.”

Dr. Jan-Markus Holm on his part said they are happy with the partnership which they are looking forward to expanding.

“We are happy that we can make this happen. We’re looking forward to a long-lasting partnership with Uasin Gishu County,” said Dr. Holm.
