Bishop Eli Rop Rallies Kenyans to Maintain Peace, Unity

Members of the clergy in the North Rift region have urged Kenyans to embrace and maintain peace and unity before, during, and after the upcoming general elections.

Led by Bishop Eli Rop, the clergy have also asked members of the public not to accept bribes from politicians and instead elect leaders freely and fairly.

“Let us not accept fifty shillings that will cost us five years of poor service and elect leaders who are ready to deliver,” says Bishop Eli Rop who also challenged the youth not to allow politicians to use them to cause havoc in the country.

He said joblessness was the reason politicians misuse most of the youth during campaigns.

“Most of our youth lack employment opportunities, and this causes them to opt for any illegal offers so long as they get a payment,” noted the Sauti Ya Rehema (SAYARE) Radio and Television founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

The Bishop also called upon the media fraternity to ensure that whatever they air, or report will help enhance peaceful coexistence and not cause divisions.

“I am asking fellow members of media not to be led by fame while they carry out their duties. Let us pass information that will promote peace and harmony among members of the public,” noted the SAYARE founder.

The clergy also expressed the need for the church and religious organizations to remain politically neutral, especially during this campaign season.

He said no religious leader should endorse any political candidate ahead of the August 9 poll.
