Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) is one of the most respected media training institutions in Kenya today.
KIMC headquartered in Nairobi was established in 1961 – then named as the then Voice of Kenya Training School. Its main purpose was to train electronic engineering and technicians for the then, Kenya Broadcasting Service (KBS) that was later rebranded in 1962 as the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).
Courses at KIMC are basically for the media personnel in Kenya and beyond.
The institution opened its first campus outside Nairobi in Eldoret town in 2018.
It held the first graduation for the KIMC Eldoret Campus on December 7, 2021.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago was the guest of honor during the inaugural graduation.
Currently, the KIMC Eldoret campus is hosted at the Home Craft, in Pioneer estate, a few kilometers from Eldoret town.
Plans are however in place to construct its own campus in a 7-acre piece of land donated by the County Government of Uasin Gishu.

Already the government has allocated Ksh1.1 billion to facilitate the construction of the campus and equip it.
What are courses offered at the KIMC Eldoret campus?
Being a young campus, not all courses available at the main campus are offered at the KIMC Eldoret campus.
During the March 2020 intake, only three courses were being offered;
- Certificate in Broadcast Journalism
- Basic Digital Video Camera and Photography Techniques
- Digital Video Editing Techniques
The certificate course takes a year, while two other courses are offered within three weeks.
As the campus keeps growing, and more equipment is availed, it will slowly move towards offering the same courses that are offered at the main campus.
Some of the courses include Diploma in Broadcast Journalism, diploma in Journalism, Diploma in Public Relations & Creative Advertising, and Diploma in Media Technology among others.
All the Diploma courses take 3 years.
Requirements to be enrolled for a Diploma course at KIMC is a C plain English, Swahili, and any other two subjects.
