Health Cabinet Secretary Nakhumicha Wafula on Tuesday made a decisive move to address Lugulu Mission Hospital’s financial woes, initiating her health reform agenda.
During her visit to the century-old institution, the CS highlighted the significance of the Social Health Insurance Act, aiming to aid low-income patients.
The hospital, owed Ksh10 million by NHIF, received Ksh3.4 million with the promise of settling the remaining balance.

The intervention is expected to help pay staff salaries.
Meanwhile, the CS praised Community Health Promoters and emphasized the broader impact of primary care networks. During her visit to Lugulu Mission Hospital, she was joined by Chairman of the Board of Management Amb. Jack Tumwa, acting CEO/Administrator Grace Khayota, Bungoma County CECM for health and sanitation Andrew Wamalwa, Webuye East MP Martin Wanyonyi, and area Senator and Woman Representative David Wakoli and Catharine Wambilianga respectively.
Sinoko Health Centre upgrade
Later in the day, CS Nakhumicha visited Sinoko Health Centre in Webuye sub-county, advocating for its urgent upgrade to enhance healthcare services. Emphasizing collaboration between national and county governments, she highlighted the facility’s importance in providing quality healthcare to the local community.

On his part, Bungoma County Executive Committee Member for Health, Andrew Wamalwa, praised CS Nakhumicha’s initiatives in establishing effective primary healthcare frameworks and acknowledged the role of legislative support in achieving integrated healthcare services nationwide.
