5,000m specialist Daniel Simiu says he is targeting to make the Team Kenya for the upcoming World Indoor Games.
The 18th World Athletics Indoor Championships are scheduled to be held from 18 to 20 March 2022 in Belgrade, Serbia, and Simiu is hoping to represent the country.
During the championships, the 26-year-old athlete will be participating in the 3000m race, as there is no 5000m.
“My preparations are for indoors. It is a tricky championship that needs speed, and I can see I am able to match other athletes in the race,” said Simiu, who recently won the 31st edition of the Discovery Kenya Cross Country Championships in Eldoret town.
Daniel Simiu is also targeting to participate in the upcoming 2022 World Athletics Championships.
The eighteenth edition of the Championships, are scheduled to be held in Eugene, Oregon, United States from July 15 to 24th.
It is during the World Championships that Simiu is hoping to correct the mistake he says he made at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japans.
In the race, he failed to make it to the finals after finishing 10th in heat one.
Daniel Simiu Ebenyo earned a spot on the Kenyan team for the 2020 Summer Games in the 5000m after finishing in the top 2 at the Kenyan Olymoic trials after running a personal best 13:05.05 behind Nicholas Kimeli.
“My target is to go to Oregon and correct a mistake I did in Olympics. I did a terrible mistake. I’m hungry for the national anthem. Personally I’m prepared as I believe hard work is the key to success,” noted the athlete.
And with the upcoming Agnes Tirop World Cross Country Tour in Eldoret, Simiu is hoping Kenyans will show their worth – especially for three-time world half marathon champion Geoffrey Kamworor.
“I wish Kamworor all the best – he’s my role model and maybe one day we can run with him,” noted Daniel Simiu Ebenyo who says he might consider upgrading to the 10,000m after the World Championships.
