Several polling stations in Uasin Gishu County opened late for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nomination on Thursday.
Voting had been expected to start as early as 7.00 am, but a majority of the polling stations in Eldoret town had not yet opened as late as 9.30 am.
A spot check by Uasin Gishu News revealed that the distribution of the ballot boxes and papers that would have facilitated the voting process had been delayed.
At the Teachers Advisory Centre (TAC) in Eldoret town, which will be used as a Constituency Tallying Centre for Moiben Sub County, distribution of the ballot boxes was still ongoing.

However, at past 9.30 am, there were only about 20 ballot papers remaining, most of them being for polling stations within Eldoret town estates.
Voting has however started smoothly in rural areas of Uasin Gishu County.
There has been no incident reported so far, with the exercise going on smoothly, save for the delays in some polling stations.

Uasin Gishu UDA members will be going to the poll to pick a candidate that will fly the party’s ticket in the gubernatorial, senatorial, Woman Representative, six Members of Parliament, and 30 Members of County Assembly seats.
The County is considered a stronghold of the UDA party under the leadership of Deputy President William Ruto, and political pundits say an individual that will get the ticket in the nominations is almost assured of securing a win in the August 9 poll.
And as the UDA members pick their leaders, the contest that will be keenly followed is that of the governor seat, as a new face will be sitting in the office that has been occupied by Jackson Mandago for the last 10 years.

The Senate race is also a hotly contested one as Mandago faces youthful lawyer Kipchumba Karori and broadcaster Robert Kemei.
There are over 400 polling stations that will be used in the UDA nominations across Uasin Gishu County.
