Uasin Gishu peace elders are demanding perpetrators of allegations that Governor Jackson Mandago and other Uasin Gishu leaders are training a “militia” in Chebororwa ATC be brought to book.
The elders have termed the allegations a threat to peace in the region.
They spoke on Friday, June 10, 2022, after visiting the institution alongside Mandago, local political leaders, and the security team to ascertain the claims.
According to the elders, anyone involved in interfering with peace and cohesion in the county should be barred from vying for any elective office.
Governor Jackson Mandago on his part called for collaboration between institutions of security and other government institutions in ensuring fairness in the administration of justice.
He further called on the office of the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to speed up the investigation of the matter and bring to book those spreading divisive utterances.
Reports of the Uasin Gishu leaders accused of training what the police described as a militia emerged last week after the DCI summoned Mandago alongside UDA governor candidate Jonathan Bii Chelilim and Cheptiret/Kipchamo Member of County Assembly (MCA) Gilbert Tenai to record statements over the matter.
The trio presented themselves before the DCI detectives at the Nakuru regional offices where they recorded their statements.
Addressing the press in Nakuru after recording his statement, Mandago dismissed claims against him, describing them as lies and propaganda.
He told journalists that the matter was being propagated by Uasin Gishu gubernatorial candidate on an independent ticket Bundotich Zedekiah Kiprop.
“Our competitors are feeding the DCI with wrong information about a militia and we are not part of any of that, ATC is an agricultural center and in no way it is being used for training militia,” Mandago said.
“This is the second time I am being summoned here, the DCI should stop harassing the members of the Kenya Kwanza team, I have been here for the larger part of the day, to block me from campaigning against State-sponsored candidates,” he added.
