The Eldoret Catholic Diocese may soon be getting several new parishes.
According to Bishop Dominic Kimengich, they are working on increasing the number of parishes within the diocese to at least 80 by the end of the year.
Currently, the Eldoret Catholic Diocese has 73 parishes.
Speaking at Don Bosco church, Kaptagat Parish, Bishop Kimengich said increasing the number of parishes will help enhance God’s work in the diocese.
“Before this year ends, or next year, we will have a new parish. If not in Naiberi then it will be here because the work of God has to go on,” said Bishop Kimengich.
The Bishop further noted that since he officially took over as the head of the Eldoret Catholic Diocese, there has been an increase in the number of parishes from 66 to the current 73.
“My vision is for this diocese to hat at least 80 parishes so that we together, effectively, spread the word of God to more people,” he said.
Bishop Kimengich took over the leadership of Eldoret Catholic Diocese on January 31, 2020.
He replaced the late Bishop Cornelius Korir.
The Eldoret Catholic Diocese covers three counties – Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, and Nandi.
Peaceful elections
And as the country heads into an electioneering period, the clergy called on Kenyans to maintain peace and cohesion.
He also asked Christians to pray for the country.
“It is time we need to be politically mature. We have to gauge utterances our politicians make and avoid those that are aimed at dividing us,” said Bishop Kimengich.
The clergy also asked political leaders to avoid making statements that might put the country’s peace and unity at risk.
“When politicians go out looking for votes, we ask that they focus on peace and unity keeping in mind that during elections, we usually witness political chaos. This time we ask that they hunt for votes peacefully,” he said.
The upcoming poll is expected to be held on August 9, 2022, with political parties expected to hold party primaries by end of April.
