Eldowas Plans to Retrench Staff, Casual Workers

Tens of staff at the Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (ELDOWAS) are staring at the threat of being sent home.

This is after the company announced plans to reduce its workforce.

In an internal memo seen by Uasin Gishu News, the company’s acting managing director Fredrick Kosgey said they plan to implement the plan to reduce the staff effective March 1, 2024.

This is to inform you that the company will be reducing casual and contract staff numbers effective 1st March 2024,” Kosgey said in part of the memo dated February 28, 2028.

According to the acting MD, the company’s decision to reduce the number of staff on casual and contract terms is informed by the high staff cost, currently at 54 per cent.

The cost, ELDOWAS says, is higher compared to the 30 per cent acceptable level as per the Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB).

In addition, the company also notified the staff of plans to reduce them to 391.

The company also intends to implement the resolution of the 124th Full Board Meeting held on 11th February 2024 of reducing the staff establishment to Three Hundred and Ninety-One (391),” the acting MD said in the internal memo.
