Eldowas Workers Involved In Illegal Water, Sewerage System Connections Put On Notice

Employees of the Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (Eldowas) involved in the illegal connection of water and sewerage systems have been put on notice.

Eldowas Managing Director Peter Biwott says any employee found to be helping in water theft and illegally connecting customers to the company’s sewerage system will face the full force of the law.

Speaking during an impromptu crackdown in areas suspected to be involved in illegal sewerage connections within Eldoret town, Biwott revealed that there are about 10 employees suspected to be behind illegal connections.

He said the connections are usually done, illegally after the culprits pay a certain amount to the rogue employees.

“About 100 meters of the sewer line here are not known to staff we came with. I have information that one of the staff is involved and is likely money changed hands to facilitate the illegal connection,” Biwott said during the crackdown.

“We have two, three, or about 10 employees involved in illegal connections, we will follow due process and heads will start to roll soon,” added the Eldowas boss.

The company recently rolled out an initiative dubbed ‘Linda Maji Mtaani’ that seeks to sensitize the public on the need to avoid wastage of water, as well as address rising cases of theft that contributes to the loss of over 18 million liters of water, out of the 43 million that it produces daily.

Eldowas also notes that illegal connections done by rogue employees are costing them up to Ksh800 million monthly in revenue.
