Governor Wisley Rotich on Thursday took his white gold crusade to Sengwer Ward where he led in the distribution of pyrethrum seeds to locals.
At the meeting, Kentegra Company delivered 1,400 sachets of seeds to farmers in Sengwer and Moiben-Kuserwo Wards, enough to plant 300 acres.
The Governor disclosed that so far, farmers in the County have already earned Ksh 16.2 million in the past year following the reintroduction of pyrethrum growing.
“Slightly more than a year ago, I asked our people to venture into pyrethrum growing. Many were sceptical, but our 3,691 farmers took the risk and today have a different story to tell,” he said.
Some of the beneficiary farmers told the meeting that they have managed to live decent lives and educate their children from the venture.
The seed distribution will continue on Friday in Kamariny and Chepkorio wards with the Governor announcing that seeds are now available to farmers who have already registered.
Present were Agriculture CEC Edwin Seroney, COs Edwin Komen, Fromency Kosgey, Elizabeth Korir and Paul Ruto among other county staff.

Meanwhile, statistics shared by the county boss indicate that so far, 3,691 farmers have registered for the White Gold campaign out of which 310 acres are now under cultivation.
So far, 52,380 kilograms of pyrethrum have been harvested while farmers have earned Ksh16.2 million.
The projected earnings for 2024 are Ksh62 million from an anticipated harvest of 200,000 kilograms of pyrethrum.
