Farmers Registration Exercise in Uasin Gishu Rolled Out

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii on September 4, 2023, officially launched a farmer registration exercise at the County headquarters in Eldoret town.

The exercise aims to gather crucial data on farmers in the region to streamline agricultural programs and ensure effective service delivery.

To ensure the success of the registration exercise, Governor Bii also flagged off a team of over 400 trained personnel distributed across all the 30 wards in the County to visit each farming household.

The officials will gather the necessary information and assist farmers in completing the registration process.

The duo proudly said that the farmers’ registration exercise had provided temporary employment opportunities for over 336 local youth a move they said was a chance for the young generation to contribute to the development of their community.

Specific needs of the farmers

Further, the County Boss highlighted that the success of the registration process relies heavily on the active participation of all farmers.

He also assured farmers that the information collected during the exercise would be treated with the utmost confidentiality and would solely be used for the benefit of the agricultural sector in Uasin Gishu County.

On his part, County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture Edwards Sawe, emphasized the importance of the exercise in helping the County Government tailor its agricultural policies and interventions to suit the specific needs of the farmers.

In addition, CECM Sawe highlighted the significance of data collection in the planning and implementation of agricultural programs.

He said that the registration exercise was not just a one-time event but an ongoing process that required manpower and dedication.

Moreover, the County Executive stressed that the information gathered during the registration exercise would enable the County Government to identify the challenges faced by farmers and provide targeted solutions to improve their productivity and income levels.

Livelihoods of the community

Agriculture Chief Officer Elphas Kesio together with his counterpart for Livestock Nixon Cheplong expressed their confidence that this exercise would bear fruits in the long run.

Kesio acknowledged the challenges that lay ahead but remained optimistic about the positive outcomes it would bring.  His faith in the success of the exercise was shared by many in attendance, who saw it as a step forward in improving the agricultural sector and the overall livelihoods of the community.

According to National Agricultural Value Chain Development (NAVCDP) Project coordinator Cosmas Lang’at the registration exercise, which commenced after intensive training of personnel to carry out the exercise, is expected to continue until October 4, 2023.

The coordinator said that the timeline allows sufficient time to reach out to all farmers in Uasin Gishu County and gather accurate information about their agricultural practices and needs.
