Elgeyo Marakwet’s Pepea Program which seeks to help youth travel abroad for studies and work continues to gather momentum.
The latest beneficiaries of the program are four students who have secured a full athletics scholarship that will enable them to study in the United States of America (USA).
Governor Wisely Rotich on Friday, December 29, 2023, bid farewell to the four students.
In a statement, the county boss said the four will be travelling next week.

He also revealed plans to hold a sensitization for the youths interested in the Pepea airlift program.
What’s the target of the Pepea Program?
According to Rotich, the county is targeting to airlift at least 10,000 students for studies and jobs abroad within the next 10 years.
“Delighted this morning to bid bye to students proceeding to various colleges in USA on athletics scholarships. Through our Pepea Program, four students have received full Athletics scholarships and will be travelling as from next week,” the Governor said in the statement.
“I want to appreciate Coach Wilson for his efforts in training the students. We shall be having a sensitization meeting for those interested in our airlift Program on 5th January. We target to airlift at least 10,000 students in ten years for studies and job opportunities abroad,” he added.

On December 26, Governor Rotich bid farewell to Gloria, a student going to Fanshawe University in Canada through the Pepea program.
Gloria has also secured a work permit.
In November 2023, 22 students from Elgeyo Marakwet who secured opportunities in Australia started their studies, days after being flagged off to travel abroad.
They were later joined by 10 other students all of whom have since been admitted to Cambridge International College (CIC).
