The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has warned Kenyans against giving out bribes in hope of securing slots during the upcoming national police recruitment.
Previous recruitments have been marred with bribery claims, but NPS says anyone found giving or receiving bribes during the exercise will face the full force of the law.
The police recruitment has been scheduled for Thursday, March 24, 2022, across the country.
Commissioner of National Police Services Lilian Kiamba has also assured that the recruitment will be free and fair.
“No recruitment has taken place. Recruitment will be on the 24th at the gazetted centers. In bribery, there is a giver and taker. We have cautioned our officers that if they receive, they will be arrested. For Kenyans, if you give, you will also be arrested,” said Kiamba.
She spoke in Eldoret, during the sensitization of locals in Uasin Gishu County over the upcoming exercise.
The police service also asked Kenyans to beware of conmen out to take advantage of unsuspecting Kenyans during the police recruitment exercise.
“If you are just given letters from those conmen, those will not be accepted. It is a crime. You will be charged, and some cases will be referred to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI),” said the NPS commissioner.
During the exercise, officials from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) will be present as observers.
For the upcoming recruitment, the commission is targeting to recruit 5,000 Kenyans in the position of Police Constables.
The exercise will be conducted at all the 290 constituencies.
All applicants are expected to be at their respective recruitment centers by 8 am. The recruitment process will end at 5:00 pm.
