Governor Tolgos: Raila Has Followers in Every Corner Including Rift Valley

Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Eng Alex Tolgos has expressed optimism that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga will win the presidency in the upcoming poll.

Eng Tolgos was among over 30 governors that on Monday, January 17, 2022, declared support for Raila’s presidential bid.

Speaking during the event, the governor dismissed perceptions that the Rift Valley region was Deputy President William Ruto’s stronghold.

“Unajua mahali sisi tunatoka, kuna perception kuwa kuna candidate huko na baba hana watu yake,” noted Tolgos.

“We want to confirm that baba (Raila) has followers in every corner of this country and through Azimio la Umoja, he has converted the followers to partners,” he added.

The county boss said the region fully supports the former Prime Minister, whom he credits for helping in the birth of the 2010 constitution that introduced devolved systems of governance.

“Tukiwa hapa, tuko nyuma ya azimio na kusupport Raila awe the fifth,” Tolgos said.

He also noted that Raila has a plan to help address the insecurity challenge that is facing the Kerio Valley region.

The region has for a long time lagged behind in development due to perennial cattle rustling and fighting for resources and boundaries among communities in the region.

And with the campaign period expected to gain momentum soon, the Elgeyo Marakwet Governor said they will mount a serious grassroots mobilization to drum up support for the ODM leader.

“Tutatembea hii safari pamoja na baba. Tutaenda kule mashinani kumtaftia kura Raila. We shall mobilize voters to register and ensure nxt election baba ataingia State House,” Tolgos said.
