Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has told off individuals asking him to retire once his term ends.

Mandago is currently serving his second term as governor and has indicated that he will be vying for the Senate seat.

Some leaders and locals in the county, however, are of the opinion the governor should give room for fresh leaders.

But speaking in a recent event at the county headquarters, Mandago seemed to suggest that he was too young to retire.

Justifying his interest in the Senate seat, Mandago said ODM leader Raila Odinga was older, but he has not yet retired.

“The work of the Senator is to look for extra resources for the county. I have friends at the World Bank and Ambassadors. All of them are a phone call away,” noted the vocal governor.

Governor Jackson Mandago, however, says only cooperatives that have had their books of accounts audited and successfully conducted their annual general meeting will benefit.

He says Uasin Gishu has attracted the highest visits of envoys in the country – all of who are ready to support various initiatives in the county.

Mandago also points out that he wants to be Senator so that the upcoming governor does not do double work – serving locals and looking for extra resources.
