Trans Nzoia residents have expressed their support for ongoing plans to construct a County Maternal and Pediatric Level 4 Hospital.
The locals who spoke at the ACK grounds in Kitale town during the public participation forum said the county lacked a specialized facility to handle diseases and also matters affecting children.
They said the move will play a major role in improving the state of healthcare in the County.
The construction of the hospital will be undertaken by the Kenya Devolution Support Program (KDSP) at a tune of Ksh185 million – being a grant from the World Bank through the Ministry of Devolution.
According to the Trans Nzoia Deputy County Secretary Gideon Sawe, the County Maternal and Pediatric Level 4 Hospital shall be the upgrade of the Tom Mboya health center that was constructed in 1940.
Public Service Management (PSM) County Executive Committee Member (CECM) Susan Nelima Murumba disclosed that the hospital would have nursing rooms and baby nurseries which would help expand the county capacity by 400.
The facility will also have 2 spacious maternity rooms, wards, and administration offices, 3 infant wards, 21-bed capacity, surgical ward, Labour wards, 12 target mothers for 0-5 years, and abolition block for staff, two meeting rooms, and spacious parking.
While lauding efforts being made by the county government towards improvement of health care in the county, PSM Chief Officer Robert Msainde said the facility will ensure delivery of health care is brought closer to people, especially residents of Matisi, Tuwan, Kipsongo, Lessos, and Bidii areas.
He said the facility will help decongest the Kitale County Referral Hospital.
