Mandago: Elect Me Senator, I Will Push Law to Give Youth, Women 70% Tenders

Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has assured the youth that once elected to Senate, he will front a bill that will enhance youth, Persons with disabilities (PWDs), and women procurement and tender process to 70 percent.

Currently, the law requires that at least 30 percent of government tenders be awarded to women, youth, and PWDs.

By increasing access to tenders, Mandago says it will create more jobs for the youth since they are the majority.

The governor further noted his administration’s efforts of establishing ward offices in every ward. This, he said will assist ward funds to be executed at the ward level and also bring government services closer to wananchi.  

He also said his administration will second procurement officers to Wards so as to help youths and the vulnerable groups with matters of tenders in government institutions to realize Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO).

Mandago spoke on Monday when he launched various projects in Kapsaos ward, Turbo sub-county on his development tour in the area.

Among the projects is the launch of water drilling at Teldet that will serve about 300 households, Kapsaos borehole that will serve about 200 households, groundbreaking of Kapsaos dispensary, and opening a laboratory at Kapkoros dispensary.

The Governor on his working tour said his administration will ensure that all the projects are equipped and in use for the benefit of the electorates.

Mandago is serving his second and last term. He was first elected in 2013 and won re-election in 2017.

In the Senate race, the county boss is facing among others lawyer Kipchumba Karori and Radio Broadcaster Robert Kemei.

All the aspirants will be battling for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.

UDA has set its nomination to be between April 9 and 16, 2022, ahead of the August 9, 2022 poll.
