Grace Nabiswa, a student form Moi Girl’s High School-Eldoret in Uasin Gishu County has been elected as the Deputy Governor for the Children’s Devolution Conference.
The election was held at the sidelines of the ongoing conference in Kiambu County that started on Wednesday.
Abel Kulabo from a special need school in Kericho County was elected as the Governor.
The elected officials will read the resolutions reached from the Children’s conference which will be held in Eldoret from August 15, 2023.
Grace, 18, is a form four student at the Eldoret-based national girls’ school.
She is also the school captain.

According to Vicky Koros, the Moi Girl’s High School Head of Boarding who is also part of the Uasin Gishu Delegation at the Children’s Devolution conference, the student was picked because of her good leadership skills.
Future leaders
In an interview with Uasin Gishu News, the teacher said Grace has been able to balance her leadership roles at the school with academics.
She further described the student’s election as an affirmation of Moi Girl’s High School’s model of education.
“Grace being picked as a deputy governor gives the assurance that the school is developing all rounded girls and future leaders,” the teacher said on Friday

“She is above average in performance and her leadership is good compared to the previous one,” she added.
Uasin Gishu was part of select counties that had been selected to have children participate in the conference.
Students from Moi Girl’s High Eldoret, Wareng High School, University Eldoret Primary School, Hills schools Primary as well as Eldoret School for the Mentally Challenged represented the county.
County Executive Committee Member for Education Dr. Janeth Kosgei who attended the opening of the Children’s Devolution Conference had encouraged students to participate in leadership positions.

“Congratulations our champion,” Dr Kosgey said as she applauded the election of Grace into the children’s leadership caucus.
“The conference has given children the platform to share their thoughts on the Devolution for leaders to get valuable feedback from them about the performance and how to serve the people better,” the CECM added.
