The National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) has urged Kenyans to maintain peace during this election period.
NCCK chairperson in the North Rift Region Daniel Barno has also urged Kenyans to avoid being bribed by politicians, and instead, ensure that they vote for the right leaders.
“Let us not accept fifty shillings in order to vote, our vote is our right and we ought to avoid accepting small bribes that will cost us for five years,” says Barno.

He also warned politicians against carrying out their political rallies inside church premises. The NCCK North Rift boss further challenged church leaders to remain neutral. He says it will be doing injustice for religious leaders to openly side with one political outfit.
“We also urge our youth to refrain from being used by politicians to cause unrest and violence in the country,” he advised.
Politicians have made it a habit of using the youth to cause chaos during the campaign period, a vice NCCK is hoping will not be witnessed in the ongoing campaigns for the August 9 poll.

Barno also urged politicians to avoid by all means using vulgar languages as well as utterances that might incite Kenyans to violence.
And with the campaigns set to go a notch higher, NCCK is promising to help champion peace and cohesion amongst all communities in the country before, during, and after the election.
