No Micro-Minis and Tight Trousers: Moi University to Implement Stringent Dress Code

Moi University is set to join several institutions of higher learning in implementing tight dress codes for its students.

On Tuesday, the Kesses-based institution in Uasin Gishu County issued a notice reminding students of the Rules and Regulations Governing their conduct and discipline.

According to the rules quoted in the notice, the students must dress decently in modest and appropriate attire.

However, the university management said, “We have observed and noted with concern the indecent dressing by some of you.”

Some of the attires that Moi University has since classified as not official include micro-miniskirts, skin-tight trousers, ragged/torn/ripped jeans, tumbo-cut blouses/t-shirts and lowcut blouses/dresses.

Transparent dresses /attires and micro shorts also fall under this category “or attires that show bra straps or sleeveless t-shirts, t-shirts with obscene writings, sagging trousers and clothing that reveals the chest.”

The university further said slippers, crocks and all plastic shoes are not official wear and should be worn in the institution.

All students should desist from inappropriate dressing while at the university as this may result in disciplinary action,” read part of the notice signed by Dr Alice Mutai, acting Dean of Students.

Dr Mutai while requesting students to dress decently also asked the university staff not to serve students who are dressed indecently.
