Residents of Nyaru, Chepkorio Ward in Elgeyo Marakwet County have a reason to smile following the commissioning of Nyaru Dispensary’s maternity.
The maternity wing will be serving residemts living along the hanging valley and the neighbouring wards.
Speaking during the official opening, Health and Sanitation Chief officer Mary Kipchumba said the maternity will reduce the distance covered by mothers seeking martenity services.
“Some mothers used to cover more than 10kms in search of maternity services, this will now be a thing of the past as the same services will now be offered here at Nyaru Dispensary,” she said.
She said the move is part of efforts by the health department to take crucial services close to wananchi.
Dorcas Kiprop, a resident thanked the County government for providing maternity services at Nyaru Diepensary.
She said the residents will no longer be hiring vehicles to transport expectant mothers.
The team also visited Flax dispensary, Chebusie community dispensary and Chepkorio and Kamwosor Sub County Hospitals.
Later, the Chief officer held talks with Richard Lang’at from World Health Organisation(WHO).
Elgeyo Marakwet County is among 11 Counties selected by WHO to be assisted in Covid 19 vaccination outreaches.
Health officials present included Director Medical Services Dr. Patrick Kosgei, Keiyo South MOH Dr. Stellah Chepkwony and Keiyo South Sub County team.
