After successfully implementing road projects during the 2023/2024 financial year as per the expectations and timelines, the Department of Roads has begun early projection and planning for projects to be implemented during the 2024/2025 fiscal year.
As part of the planning, the Uasin Gishu County Executive for Roads Eng. Joseph Lagat held a meeting with Sub County engineers, inspectors and surveyors to reflect on the gains in work, especially in addressing challenges of drainage in most affected areas in rural parts and estates within Eldoret town.
Eng Lagat stated: ” We are focussing on improving roads according to the manifesto of H.E Governor Dr Jonathan Bii so that people can go about their lives without challenges.”
“Among the priority areas are access roads to markets, bus parks and roads that enhance movement of our farmers as they go about their daily activities,” said the County Executive
“During the last financial year, we completed a good number of Bridges and Box Culverts and projects in areas that were previously most affected by flooding,” he added.
They included the installation of Culverts along Leseru Station-Kuresiet-Chemalal Baharini road and at Trinity Mission Hospital in Kamagut ward, Turbo Sub County and also Drainage/ Road Improvement Works along Kibigos – Lagam- Roadblock road and Marakwet farm (Kiptanui primary school) road, Kuinet Kapsuswa Ward, Soy Sub County, Jasho area in Kapseret Sub County among others.
During the last financial year, the County opened up 45 kilometres on new roads, maintained 901 kilometres of existing roads, graded 800 kilometres, gravelled 101kilometres and implemented 135 metres of Bridges and Culverts.
