Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Responds to Claims He’s Inciting Locals

Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Stephen Kihara has dismissed claims that he is involved in attempts to incite communities against each other.

The claims were made on Saturday at the Eldoret Sports Club during a rally graced by Deputy President William Ruto.

Two Members of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wa of Kikuyu and Mathira’s Rigathi Gachagua made the claims while addressing thousands of locals.

According to the two, the County Commissioner has been holding meetings aimed at causing friction and divisions amongst communities in Uasin Gishu.

But responding to the claims, Kihara said he has no knowledge of the alleged meetings.

“Those leaders are talking of issues I am not aware of. I don’t know where these meetings are being held,” said the County Security boss.

The County Commissioner chairs the County Security Committee, whose membership also includes the area governor.

Kihara also questioned the motive of the two leaders commenting on such a sensitive matter.

“Why should people come to incite our people by talking about things, not in our records? I find it strange for people from far to come and talk about our issues which don’t exist,” noted the County Commissioner.

Uasin Gishu is a largely cosmopolitan county and has always been put in the spotlight during the elections period.

“We have put in place sufficient measures to ensure peaceful campaign season where everybody is allowed to go to any part of the country and look for votes. We will also continue working together with leaders, the way we have been working,” affirmed the Uasin Gishu County Commissioner.
