Uasin Gishu County now has two national schools.
This is after the elevation of A.I.C Chebisaas Boys High School to be a Boys National School.
The Ministry of Education early this week confirmed the upgrade of the school, which makes it the second national school in the county after Moi Girls High School Eldoret.
In a letter to the school’s principal dated June 2, 2022, the Ministry said the elevation of A.I.C Chebisaas Boys High School to the National Boys School followed a request by the Uasin Gishu County Education Board.
“The county education board – Uasin Gishu recommended the elevation of your school to National Status,” read part of the letter to the principal.
“This is to inform you that AIC Chebisaas Boys High School has been upgraded to a boys National School for Uasin Gishu County after the request by County Education Board was approved.”
The move is also in line with government policy for each county to have at least two national schools, one for boys and the other for girls.
“It is the policy of the Ministry that every county should have at least two national schools, one for every gender. National Schools admit students from across the Republic as a way of promoting national cohesion and unity,” noted the letter signed on behalf of the Education Principal Secretary.
Chebisaas Boys High School, located near the University of Eldoret (UoE) in Chepkoilel, just outside Eldoret town, has been operating as an extra County school.
Earlier, there were suggestions that Cheptiret Boys High School in Kesses Constituency be elevated to a Boys National School but it never materialized.
But with the latest upgrade, the Ministry now expected relevant stakeholders to ensure it starts operating as a National Boys School.
“It is expected that the school in consultations with all relevant education organs and stakeholders will put in place necessary structures to enable the school operate as a national school,” noted the letter forwarded stamped as forwarded by the Uasin Gishu County Director of Education.
The school is expected to start operating as a National Boys School in January 2023 when it admits new form one students.
