The security team in Uasin Gishu County has received new vehicles that are aimed at helping boost surveillance and patrols ahead of the August poll.
Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Ayub Gitonga Ali says they have received 15 new vehicles that will be spread across all the 6 Sub Counties.
He also notes that they have received other equipment that will help ensure they are well prepared to handle anything that might result from the poll,
“We have an election ahead of us and as the police department, we have a plan to ensure peace before, during, and after elections,” Ali told Uasin Gishu News.

“Each sub-county has been given at least one vehicle to enhance patrol. We also have other equipment to deal with violence, should it be there,” he added.
The Uasin Gishu police boss further said they have sufficient police officers that will guarantee peace and unity amongst the locals thought the electioneering period.
Among the vehicles the police have received include Land cruiser pickups and new model Mahindra.

Hate Speech
Aside from enhancing patrols and surveillance, the security team in the county is also monitoring all political and public events, in a move that seeks to ensure no hate speech or reckless statements that might be a threat to peace are made.
Ali notes that, in partnership with the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), they have deployed police officers to monitor all political events across the county.
“In all political rallies and events, we have put in place police officers with recorders and we do analysis to see if there is hate speech,” said the Uasin Gishu County Police Commander.

The recorders were provided by NCIC.
However, so far, the police say, there have been no cases of hate speech witnessed among political leaders in the county.
