The County Government of Uasin Gishu is in the process of upgrading and equipping all its public hospitals in the 6 Sub Counties to levels 4 and 5.
This is in a bid to enhance health service delivery and reduce the cost incurred by residents who are forced to get services in private hospitals.
Speaking at Kesses Market, Kesses Sub County during a public participation exercise on County Finance Bill 2023/24 and the election of ward development committee exercise, Roads, Transport and Public Works CECM Eng Joseph Lagat said his department is supporting the construction of the state-of-the-art Sub-County hospitals that will help decongest the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) and reduce the cost of health services.
“We have upgraded hospitals like Ziwa is now a level 5 facility and here in Kesses we’re building a level four one, same to Turbo and Moiben,” Eng Lagat said.

“All those hospitals have been offering basic health services but once upgraded they will have the capacity to handle any medical need of the residents,” he added.
Reduce travel costs
In addition, Eng Lagat said the new hospitals once completed will offer services such as x-ray, lab, ICU, and CT-Scan, at a lower cost, and reduce the cost and distance patients have had to travel to seek the services initially.
Further, the County Executive noted that all the county facilities will be digitised and that the county government is in talks with international partners to get very modern machines to enhance the services.
The county has already signed an agreement with an Israeli company Elsmed Healthcare Solutions which is involved in the digitization initiative.

“Elsmade will also bring us equipment like CT-Scan that are only found in private hospitals in Eldoret and MTRH but we will have them in our Sub-County Hospitals,” said the Public Works CECM.
