Uasin Gishu County Woman Member of Parliament Gladys Boss Shollei has written to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) demanding for an apology.
This is in relation to a recent list of persons the commission sent to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), arguing they had fallen short of moral and ethical standards stipulated for election to public office.
While listing about 241 individuals, EACC asked IEBC to lock them from participating in the August 9 poll.
The individuals have either been convicted of various graft-related charges, impeached, or have ongoing active corruption cases.
In the list, Shollei was also included, but the County Woman MP notes her inclusion was an error and she is now demanding that her name is removed from it, and the commission apologizes.
“It is with grave concern that I note the irregular inclusion of my name in the so-called blacklist given to IEBC of candidates who should not be cleared to run for office,” she said in her letter.
The County Woman MP argues that all charges in relation to her tenure as the Registrar of Judiciary have since been withdrawn with the Supreme Court early this year ruling that she was unfairly sacked from the post.
“It is therefore malicious that my name would be included in a list of those considered unfit to run for office,” she said.
Shollei was listed alongside, among others Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru, Sirisia MP John Waluke, Oscar Sudi of Kapseret, and former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko in the list EACC hopes IEBC will use to bar them from vying in the upcoming general election.
She is now demanding an apology, failure to which she has threatened legal action against the commission.
“I, therefore, demand immediate withdrawal of my name from the said ‘blacklist’ and a public apology correcting the error. I reserve my right to commence legal action against EACC,” Shollei, who has already been cleared by IEBC to defend her seat said.
