Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has officially conferred township status upon Kiminini Market, marking a major shift in the County’s administrative and economic standing.
The elevation, announced during a ceremony on Thursday, February 12, 2026, is expected to attract higher levels of funding and more structured development from the county government.
Speaking at the event, Governor Natembeya described the change as a historic milestone that recognizes the area’s rapid growth.
He noted that the new status would allow the county to implement better urban planning and improve essential public services.

“This elevation is a clear recognition of Kiminini’s progress into a dynamic economic hub,” the Governor said, adding that “It is a bold step toward unlocking greater prosperity and order for our people.”
How Kiminini will benefit from township status
Under the new township framework, Kiminini is set to benefit from:
- Structured Urban Planning: Better layout for buildings and transport networks.
- Infrastructure Development: Upgrading of local roads, drainage systems, and street lighting.
- Improved Public Services: Enhanced waste management and water supply.
- Investment Opportunities: A more organized business environment to attract entrepreneurs and traders.
The Governor further emphasized that the change is more than just a new title.
He stated it would provide the legal and administrative tools necessary to manage the town’s growth sustainably.
