A petition has been formally filed before the National Assembly seeking the removal from office of the current Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) top leadership.
The council is chaired by AlHajj Hassan Ole Naado.
North Rift Muslim leader Jamal Diriwo Omari filed the petition on Monday, August 25, 2025.
According to the copy of the petition seen by Uasin Gishu News, Omari wants the MPs to order the current SUPKEM leadership to step aside and pave the way for an interim committee to be established.
He further argues that Muslims have already lost faith in the Ole Naado’s leadership for mismanaging hajj pilgrimages and a lack of transparency.
The committee, according to the petition, shall comprise Islamic scholars with good integrity in leadership, and shall only serve for 90 days.
“The resignation or removal of the SUPKEM National Executive Committee under the chairmanship of Al-Hajj Hassan Ole Naado shall pave the way for a good leadership, trusted by the Kenyan Muslims at large to pave the way for a good leadership to be put in place that shall satisfy the needs of Muslim organisations in Kenya and the Muslim community at large regardless of race, tribe, colour or orign,” Omari said in the petition.

In addition, the petition wants the MPs to order an audit of accounts, bank statements, balance sheets and all waqfu properties acquired for the last 20 years for transparency and accountability.
Why North Rift Muslim leader wants SUPKEM leadership out
The petitioner said Muslims had already lost faith in the SUPKEM leadership, hence it does not deserve to continue holding the positions.
He also wants the SUPKEM constitution amended to remove clauses that he believes shield impunity, giving room for the leaders to oppress others.
“SUPKEM’s constitution must be amended to benefit all Muslim needs in Kenya since it is the umbrella body for all Muslim organisations and associations in the country,” the petitioner said.
He also wants the implementation of a transparent financial management system to establish a clear service standard and create an independent oversight body or mechanism.
In the petition, Omari accuses the SUPKEM top leadership of contravening several Islamic laws of the Holy Quran, among them Chapter 4:135, 3:110, 3:34 and 100:08.
Other accusations are contravention of Chapter 2:76 on corruption, mischiefs, misappropriation of public properties and misuse of public funds, which are punishable according to the Quran.
“I expect they (MPSs) will stand by the Kenyan constitution and the teachings of the Quran,” Omari told Uasin Gishu News.
