DAP-K Names Patrick Simiyu New Trans Nzoia County Chairman after Exit of Joshua Werunga

The Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) has announced changes to its leadership in Trans Nzoia County.

On Friday, February 6, 2026, the party announced that Cherengany Member of Parliament Patrick Simiyu had been unanimously endorsed as the Party County Chairman.

Simiyu takes over from Joshua Werunga who recently decamped to the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

This decision aligns with previous resolutions for Trans Nzoia to conduct grassroots elections within the next two weeks, ensuring continued internal democracy and member participation,” DAP-K said.

The party further announced that it will hold grassroots elections in the county within the next two weeks.

Furthermore, the National Executive Council (NEC) and National Governing Council (NGC) are scheduled to convene within the next three weeks to deliberate on national strategy and organizational priorities.

The announcement was made on a day in which DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa convened key leadership engagements in Trans Nzoia County, marking significant milestones in the Party’s organizational and strategic agenda.

Following the Central Management Committee meeting, the Party leadership met with delegates from Trans Nzoia County and officially opened the County and Regional Offices, reinforcing our grassroots presence and strengthening engagement with members,” the party said.

DAP remains committed to principled leadership, unity of purpose, and structured growth, as we continue to engage our members and the Kenyan people in shaping the Party’s strategic direction and national agenda,” it added.
