The County Government of Uasin Gishu has set elaborate plans to make the region a multi-sports hub, Governor Dr Jonathan Bii has said.
Speaking while hosting the Eldoret Club officials, Dr Bii said his administration has a plan to add more into the athletics prowess that the County basks in.
Dr Bii said the County Sports Council was formed fundamentally to strategize on growing all sports disciplines across Uasin Gishu.

“Our plan is to stretch the sports respect that we already enjoy in athletics. We want Uasin Gishu to also command respect as a powerhouse in rugby, football, cycling and all other disciplines,” Dr Bii added.

Rivatex and KCC football clubs, both from Uasin Gishu, were the big giants of the Kenyan Premier League in the 90s.
Eldoret’s GFE 105 is also an active football club that plays in second tier league.
A majority of volleyballers playing in domestic and international stables are also from Uasin Gishu.
“These examples are just a fraction of the justification of the sporting potential abound here,” the county boss said.
Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea also added weight on the plan for Uasin Gishu to be a sports heavy weight through strengthening of more sports disciplines.

County Secretary Philip Melly said the plan also encompasses harnessing the sports potential to market Eldoret as the city of champions.
County Executive for Water, Anthony Sitienei was also at the meeting.
Chief Officer for Sports, CPA Victorine Kapkiai reiterated that the department is already running different sports programs to nurture the youth sports talents.
Former Boston Marathon champion and Eldoret professional golfer Moses Tanui led the delegation from Eldoret Club.
