The County Government of Trans Nzoia, through the Department of Lands, Physical Planning, Housing and Urban Development under Kitale Municipality, has commenced routine maintenance of selected bitumen roads within the Central Business District (CBD).
The exercise aims to improve road conditions, enhance safety, and ensure reliable use by the public.
Works include repairing potholes, sealing surface cracks, spot resurfacing of deteriorated sections, and repainting road markings such as lane lines, parking bays, and pedestrian crossings.

Kitale Municipal Manager Irine Nangole, who inspected the ongoing works, said the maintenance is necessary to preserve the town’s infrastructure. “We are repairing worn-out roads, sealing cracks to prevent further damage, and repainting markings to improve order and safety in the CBD,” she explained.
Her sentiments were echoed by CEC for Lands, Housing and Urban Development Pius Gumo, who also emphasised the importance of keeping Kitale clean and habitable.
“Kitale town is the face of the county. We are working hand in hand with the municipality to ensure the town remains functional and attractive for all,” he said.

Gumo added that drainage clearance and minor repairs are also part of the programme, especially during the rainy season.
He noted that the maintenance activities are being undertaken along key road sections, including Post Office Road, Kenyatta Street, Moi Avenue, Mak Asembo Street, Robert Ouko Street, Bank Street, as well as Mount Elgon Road.

“Our overall objective is to maintain a safe, functional, and efficient road network within Kitale town, which is the largest urban centre in the county,” he said.
The duo further said the routine maintenance will ease traffic flow, improve business operations, and enhance the image of Kitale as a growing commercial hub in the country.
