Nandi County Rolls Out Countywide Sensitization On Alcoholic Drinks Regulations

/

The County Government of Nandi, through the Department of Trade, Tourism, Industrialization and Enterprise Development under the Directorate of Alcoholic Drinks Control, has rolled out a countywide sensitization program targeting bar owners, the public, and stakeholders in the alcoholic drinks industry.

This follows the successful conclusion of the 2026 licensing application and approval process.

The initiative aims to enhance compliance with regulations, promote responsible trade practices, and raise awareness on the dangers of counterfeit alcoholic products.

The Directorate on Tuesday, April 8, 2026, conducted sensitization forums in Aldai and Emgwen Sub-Counties, where bar owners and members of the public were educated on licensing requirements, operational guidelines, and the risks associated with illicit alcohol.

Speaking during the sessions, the Director in charge of the Directorate, William Melly, urged bar operators to strictly adhere to licensing regulations and operate within stipulated timelines to avoid legal action.

He further warned licensed premises against the sale of unlicensed liquor. His remarks were echoed by Deputy Director Geoffrey Burgei.

The Directorate also took the opportunity to issue 2026 licenses to approved premises in the two sub-counties.

Sub-County administrators reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with security agencies to enforce compliance and crack down on the sale of illicit alcohol.

The sensitization program is being implemented in collaboration with the Anti-Counterfeit Authority and Urban Breweries Limited.

County Government of Nandi remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding public health, promoting responsible business practices, and ensuring strict adherence to alcoholic drinks regulations across the county.
