The Ministry of Defence has reaffirmed that construction of the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Multi-Speciality Hospital is progressing well, with the 2,000-bed phase one facility set for completion by early 2027.
Defence Principal Secretary Patrick Mariru conducted an inspection tour of the project on Thursday, June 11, 2026, alongside Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Evans Kapkea.

He described the hospital as a “transformative healthcare investment that will significantly enhance access to specialized medical services in the region and across the country and indeed Africa.”
The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Defence in partnership with the Ministry of Health. Once complete, it will be the biggest hospital in Kenya.

Mariru said the facility will “bolster Kenya’s healthcare capacity, support advanced medical training and research, and strengthen the delivery of quality healthcare services to wananchi.”
The PS noted that the multi-speciality hospital is expected to ease congestion at MTRH while expanding specialized treatment options for patients from across the country and the region.

Present during the inspection were national and local leaders, Ministry of Defence officials, and representatives of Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Works on the project were launch in November 2025 by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale.
