Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya on Friday, July 24, 2026, officially launched a new 13-bed renal unit at Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kitale Town.
Speaking at the event, Natembeya described the new unit as one of the largest and most advanced in the Western Kenya region.
“It has a capacity to serve 26 patients daily, translating to 156 dialysis sessions per week and over 600 sessions per month,” Natembeya said.
“By bringing quality renal care closer to our people, we are reducing the financial and time burden families previously faced seeking treatment elsewhere,” he added.
The county boss further said opening of a renal unit at Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital is another bold step towards achieving Universal Health Coverage in Trans Nzoia.
Additionally, he revealed plans to recruit critical staff, including doctors, nurses, and clinicians, to ensure the renal unit and the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) operate at full capacity.
“Better health services for our people remain a priority,” Governor Natembeya insisted.
