It was a perfect Boxing Day for Hermstone Makam, a man who once offered to wash Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi’s car.
The MP gifted Makam a three-bedroomed house in Eldoret valued at Ksh 7 million.
According to Sudi, the gift was an appreciation for a man who has stood by him for 14 years.
He revealed that he first met Makam in 2011 on Riara Road in Nairobi, where he was working on a construction site.
“He asked me if he could volunteer to wash my car, and I agreed. I saw he was hardworking and honest, so I decided to take him in. I asked if he’d be willing to work for me because I saw he was a good person,” Sudi said.

After monitoring him as he worked and washed his car for some time, the legislator then gave him fare and he relocated to Eldoret, Kapseret, where he had moved before becoming an MP.
“He took care of my compound before I’d started building my home… the place was remote, didn’t even have power. He waited patiently, doing daily chores like planting flowers and doing garden work as I built my house,” he said.
Why Sudi gifted his employee a Ksh 7m house
The legislator noted that Makam did an exemplary job, and he made a promise that he would help him have his own place one day.
“He’s stood by me for 14 years, transforming the place where we stayed… Lately, I remembered our promise (he didn’t remind me), so I gifted him a 3-bedroom house today. Because of his trust and honesty, I decided to reward him for his resilience, trustworthiness, and hard work,” Sudi said.
Makam was not the only one the flamboyant MP gifted a three-bedroomed house.
He also extended the same gesture to Penina Manyara.

Penina, Sudi said, is mother to one of the MP’s employee who died about ten months ago.
“When Peninah Manyara (Mama Mungai) lost her son Dwayne Mungai 10 months ago, I was touched because Dwayne was a skilled IT professional who worked for us,” Sudi revealed.
“I decided to gift the mother the house in honour of her late son. His energy, diligence, and commitment to uplifting his community left a lasting impact, and this gift is a small tribute to his legacy,” he added.
