The reconstruction of Kamariny Stadium, the iconic home of Kenyan athletics, is progressing steadily with new structural features now taking shape.
According to an update by Sports Kenya, the stadium’s main stand has seen significant progress, with the installation of precast terracing now underway.
“The precast concrete terracing is rising steadily along the curve of the stand, with rows of seating units now firmly in place and the sweeping bowl design beginning to come to life,” Sports Kenya said.
The agency noted that activity on site has intensified, with heavy equipment deployed to fast-track the works.
“Heavy machinery and delivery trucks remain a constant presence on site, ferrying in materials as cranes lift and position structural elements section by section,” it added.
Sports Kenya said the project reflects a commitment to deliver a facility that matches the region’s athletics heritage, noting that “every phase of this build reflects the commitment to giving Elgeyo Marakwet’s athletes and the world a stadium worthy of the region’s rich running heritage.”
Kamariny Stadium is widely regarded as the cradle of Kenyan athletics, having produced generations of world-beating distance runners.
It is one of the three stadiums in the North Rift region that the national government is constructing ahead of the Mashujaa Day celebration in the region.
