GSU Officer Shoots Woman Dead in Eldoret Bar Dispute, Flees

Police in Uasin Gishu County have launched a manhunt for a General Service Unit (GSU) officer who allegedly shot and killed a woman following a dispute inside the GSU mess compound.

The incident occurred on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at around 5:30 p.m. at the GSU camp near the Eldoret State Lodge in Naiberi, Ainabkoi Sub-County.

According to a police report filed at Naiberi Police Station seen by Uasin Gishu News, the deceased aged 45, was taking alcohol at the GSU mess when she had an altercation with a Police Constable identified as Nathan Kirwa.

Police say the officer, who was armed with a rifle, shot her, killing her instantly.

The report was made by Senior Sergeant Ronald Cheruiyot, attached to the GSU Camp Eldoret.

Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Wilborce Sichara, the Sub-County Police Commander Ainabkoi, Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) Ainabkoi, the Scene of Crime team from Uasin Gishu County and officers from Naiberi visited the scene.

At the scene, officers recovered seven spent cartridges of 9mm, a rifle holster and a Toyota Corolla 110 believed to belong to the suspect.

The scene was processed and the body moved to Eldoret Hospital Mortuary pending postmortem examination.

Police said the suspect escaped after the incident and is still at large. The case has been marked as pending arrest and the SCCIO Ainabkoi is handling investigations.
