Preparations to mitigate the effects of El Nino rains are in top gear across various parts of Uasin Gishu County.
The exercise involves unclogging and excavating blocked drainages and construction of culverts in areas identified as prone to flash floods.
Uasin Gishu County Executive for Roads, Abraham Serem, on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, inspected completed and ongoing road projects in Huruma Ward, specifically in Spain, Shauri and King’ong’o estates where several projects have been completed while others are underway.
Serem, who was accompanied by area Member of County Assembly (MCA) Kimani Wanjohi, Director of Roads Eng. Julius Ronoh, Deputy Director Eng. Linus Yego and Chief Engineer Kenneth Cherono, was received with jubilation by residents.
He said the county is recording major milestones in road construction through the Framework Contracts program.
According to Serem, Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii has issued strict directives to his ministry to ensure all areas mapped as high-risk are addressed immediately to avert disaster and ensure storm water flows freely without destroying property.
On his part, MCA Wanjohi noted that some of the areas where drainages have been opened, culverts installed and roads upgraded had not witnessed such development for a long time.
