As President Uhuru Kenyatta moves closer to an end of his 10-year reign, a Uasin Gishu resident has come out to thank him for what he says is massive development record he will be leaving behind.
Kenyatta was first elected in 2013, and as Kenyans go to the poll to elect a new President in August 9, the Eldoret man, Michael Kirwa, has penned an emotional thank you letter titled ‘Thank you for the legacy’.
“Your Excellency sir, thank you for the Jubilee administration and you being the instrument of transformation since 2013 to date,” Kirwa says.
He goes further to list 10 areas he says are part of the many developments that captures President Kenyatta’s legacy.
Among the legacies Kirwa says the Head of state will be leaving is the Ksh73.5 billion Nairobi Expressway – a first toll highway that covers 27.1 kilometers.
Uhuru Garden Museum and Afri-Cities Convention Centre are other development Kirwa notes are part of Uhuru’s legacy.
Afri-Cities Convention Centre based at Mamboleo, Kisumu is a Ksh850 million project that has an auditorium, exhibition arena, break rooms, amphitheatre, VIP lounge, health centre and children’s park among others.
Another legacy the Uasin Gishu resident says President Kenyatta will be leaving is the Standard Gauge Railaway (SGR).
Kirwa says SGR is a modern trail that has revolutionalized cargo transportations and passengers travel time reduced.
“Thank you sir for the 33,000km roads construction and among many bridges such as makupa, mwache etc,” he adds in his letter.
The Ksh3 billion Kisumu Port, Kipevu Oil Terminal and Electricity connection are other legacies Kirwa says President Kenyatta will be remembered for.
“Thank you for the 8 millions of Kenyans who are now fully connected with power during your term,” he says.
Under the Jubilee government, the last mile electricity connectivity project was introduced, a move that saw all schools connected with power, and locals around the institutions also benefited.
Kirwa also says introduction of digital Televisions and the Handshake are other legacies for Kenyatta.
“If today given an opportunity to meet the President , I have only one request – to accept my only gift for all Kenyans,” he says.
