Sheryl Chepkirui and Beryl Chepkogei share almost everything. From their identical smiles to their educational path, their lives have been a parallel journey.
Born in Uasin Gishu County, they began their schooling together at Tuiyobei Primary School before moving as a pair to AIC Besiebor Primary School in class two. There, they sat for their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations side by side.
By 2021, the twins had joined Ndalat Gaa Girls Secondary School in Nandi County. It was here that their shared dream of working in healthcare began to crystallise, fuelled by social media trends and the experiences of friends.
“I kept seeing KMTC on TikTok and hearing about it from friends. The more we learned about it, the more we felt it was where we belonged,” Sheryl recalls.

Out of the more than 100 courses offered at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), Occupational Therapy captured their attention. The choice was deeply personal. Growing up, the sisters lived closely with a cousin who had cerebral palsy. Watching the challenges he navigated daily left an indelible mark on them.
“We saw the challenges he faced, and it was really tough. It made us want to help him and other people going through similar experiences,” Beryl recalls.
When the March 2025 intake was announced, the sisters carefully reviewed the available options. Their search ended the moment they discovered Occupational Therapy.
“When we learned that the course focuses on helping people live meaningful and independent lives despite physical, mental or developmental challenges, we knew this was it,” Sheryl says.
What draws them most to the course is the hands-on opportunity to transform lives through practical care, rehabilitation, and support. Their bond as identical twins has been the engine of their success.
“Growing up as twins has been a blessing. We have always supported and motivated each other,” Sheryl says.

Currently studying at KMTC Mbuvo Campus, they describe their experience as remarkable. They maintain a unique rhythm, revising together while respecting their individual study styles, which keeps them balanced between teamwork and personal growth.
“We have gained both knowledge and practical skills,” Sheryl notes. For them, campus life is a mix of lectures, examinations, and the steady march toward becoming compassionate healthcare professionals. Looking ahead, the duo envisions a future filled with meaning.
“After graduation, I see myself working in hospitals and rehabilitation centres, helping people regain their independence,” Sheryl says. “I also hope to explore areas such as paediatrics, neurology or community-based rehabilitation.”
While they would love to work side by side one day, they are equally open to forging different professional paths, provided they continue to make a positive difference in people’s lives.
Their advice to fellow students comes straight from their own journey: “Stay focused and choose a course you are truly passionate about,” Sheryl says. “Success comes with hard work and consistency,” Beryl adds.
