A new County Emergency Medical Centre has been set up at the Iten County Referral Hospital (ICRH) to enhance emergency services in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The centre, currently in its pilot phase, will operate 24/7, connecting ambulances with healthcare facilities and tracking their movements in real-time.
Residents can call 0704282828 or 0709000430 for emergency assistance.
”This initiative aims to improve response times and save lives,” Governor Wisely Rotich said.

The public is encouraged to use these numbers for accident or medical emergencies.
Are doctors in Elgeyo Marakwet still on strike?
Meanwhile, medical practitioners in Elgeyo Marakwet resumed work after signing a return-to-work agreement with the county government, ending a pending industrial action.
The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) inked the deal with county officials, led by County Secretary Lazarus Chebii, Health CEC Monica Rotich, and CO Jeremiah Chirchir, on April 1, 2026 following marathon negotiations.
“We have addressed most of the issues raised by the union, and we expect doctors to report back to duty tomorrow,” said Rotich.

KMPDU’s North Rift Secretary, Dr. Kamonzi Mulei, confirmed the agreement, stating, “We’ve reached an amicable solution, and our doctors will resume work immediately.”
Doctors in the county have been on strike for about a month.
