Jonathan Bii Calls For Innovation in Farming Ahead of Planting Season

Farmers in Uasin Gishu have been advised to use modern farming methods as they prepare for the upcoming planting season.

Speaking at the Eldoret ASK Show, Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim highlighted the importance of innovation in farming to improve food production and boost the economy.

He reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to advancing climate-smart agriculture, a strategy aimed at mitigating the adverse effects of climate change while boosting productivity.

As part of this initiative, he highlighted several key interventions, including, the distribution of free high-value seedlings to improve crop diversity and resilience, the provision of modern farming equipment such as chisel ploughs and potato planters to promote minimum tillage and precision planting, capacity building for farmers to help them adopt innovative farming methods that enhance efficiency and sustainability.

These efforts will ensure that our farmers are well-equipped to increase their yields while protecting the environment. Climate-smart agriculture is no longer an option; it is a necessity for sustainable economic growth,” Dr. Bii stated.

Eldoret ASK Show innovations

The governor urged attendees to maximize the insights and innovations showcased at the ASK event. The annual exhibition brings together agriculture experts, policymakers, and traders to share best practices and introduce new technologies in the sector.

Dr. Bii expressed optimism that the event would serve as a platform for networking, learning, and improving agribusiness ventures within Uasin Gishu and beyond.

The ASK Show is an opportunity for farmers to embrace new technologies and techniques that will enhance their productivity and profitability. I also encourage all stakeholders to take full advantage of the knowledge shared here,” he remarked.

County officials, including CECM for Agriculture Dr. Sam Kottut, County Secretary Ambrose Tarus and Chief of Staff, were also present.
