Labour Cabinet Secretary Dr Alfred Mutua has revealed plans by the government to expand labour mobility opportunities between Kenya and Canada.
As part of the plan, Dr Mutua held a meeting with Canadian High Commissioner to Kenya, Dr. Joshua Tabah on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.
“During the discussions, we agreed to partner for an upcoming recruitment of meat cutters for a Canadian company,” the CS said.

The discussions also focused on establishing technical training partnerships between Kenyan institutions and Canadian colleges and universities to enable Kenyans to obtain Canadian-recognized certification in key sectors where there is high demand.
Among the sectors include healthcare (especially nurses), aviation engineers, agro industry among other skilled professions.
How Kenya plans to ensure for Kenyans work on Canada
To support this effort, CS Mutua said they are exploring the “Train and Place” model (Plug and Play) – an emerging global recruitment approach where Kenyan trainees are trained to the exact standards required by Canadian employers before deployment.

“This ensures that workers acquire the right skills, certification, and competencies needed in the Canadian labour market,” he said.
Meanwhile, the CS said the Kenyan government of Kenya will continue to build structured, transparent, and mutually beneficial labour mobility pathways.
“Our goal remains clear: to ensure Kenyan talent is well-trained, globally competitive, and able to access dignified employment opportunities across the world,” he said.
