Kenya Records Increase in Trade Value to Ksh 349.6 Billion in July 2025

Kenya’s total value of trade increased from KSh 313.2 billion in June 2025 to KSh 349.6 billion in July 2025, data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) has revealed.

During the same period, export earnings increased from KSh 85.2 billion to KSh 97.1 billion, while the value of imports increased from KSh 228.0 billion to KSh 252.5 billion.

Uganda, the United States of America, and Pakistan were the leading export destinations, with export values amounting to KSh 10.5 billion, KSh 7.3 billion, and KSh 5.7 billion, respectively.

Food and beverages accounted for the largest share of total exports at 43.1 per cent, while non-food industrial supplies contributed 26.2 per cent and machinery and other capital equipment 2.6 per cent.

The leading import partners in July 2025 were China, India, and the United Arab Emirates, with import values of KSh 71.8 billion, KSh 25.3 billion, and KSh 17.8 billion, respectively. Imports from the USA increased by 80.3 per cent to KSh 16.5 billion in July 2025.

Non-food industrial supplies constituted the largest share of total imports at 36.2 per cent, followed by fuel and lubricants at 19.2 per cent, machinery and other capital equipment at 18.3 per cent, transport equipment at 10.1 per cent, and food and beverages at 7.9 per cent.

Kenya’s ICT trade value in July 2025

In the ICT equipment trade, the value of ICT exports more than doubled from KSh 87.5 million in June 2025 to KSh 223.4 million in July 2025. Within this category, exports of telecommunications equipment increased more than fourfold from KSh 36.0 million to KSh 176.4 million over the same period.

Similarly, the value of ICT imports rose from KSh 7.6 billion in June 2025 to KSh 10.6 billion in July 2025.

In the mobile money services, the KNBS reports show that the number of active mobile money agents increased from 433,615 in June 2025 to 437,730 in July 2025. Conversely, mobile money subscriptions (active, inactive, or dormant) decreased from 84.2 million to 84.1 million over the same period.

The total number of transactions increased from 207.8 million in June 2025 to 215.3 million in July 2025. Similarly, the value of transactions grew from KSh 667.8 billion to KSh 673.1 billion.
