The Uasin Gishu County Assembly has approved Evans Kapkea’s appointment as the new Deputy Governor.
Members of the County Assembly unanimously voted to adopt a report of the Committee on Appointment on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, which recommended his approval.
The committee chaired by Speaker Phillip Muigei vetted Kapkea last week.
Tabling the report to the house floor, Deputy Speaker, a member of the Committee on Appointment Sarah Malel said the nominee satisfied all members that he was up to the task.
“When he appeared before this committee, Kapkea proved and demonstrated that he is capable of being the deputy governor of this county. He also demonstrated on how he will fit in the shoes of the new role,” Malel said.
The Kimumu MCA further pointed out that the DG nominee was a man of integrity and hard work.
On his part, Racecourse MCA Amos Kiptanui said Kapkea demonstrated his ability and skills to serve in the position he has been nominated to serve.
Kiptanui said Kapkea, who has served as the Tembelio MCA since his election in 2022, has shown interest in following up on county executive operations.
The MCA further asked Governor Jonathan Bii to allocate a portfolio to the DG once he is shown in.
“It’s my humble request that the governor will consider giving the nominee a portfolio of roads and infrastructure or head of the delivery unit so that he will be in charge of all operations because he understands all the departments,” the ward representative said.
With the approval of the MCAs, Kapkea is now set to be sworn in as the third Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor.
He will take over from Eng John Barorot who resigned last month to take up a top job at an international ICT job.
