Local electricity generation decreased from 1,116.3 million kWh in March 2025 to 1,074.1 million kWh in April 2025.
Latest data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), however, shows that geothermal was the leading source, generating 479.7 million kWh in April 2025. Hydro followed, producing 293.7 million kWh, an increase of 7.1 per cent from the 274.3 million kWh recorded in March 2025.
Total electricity generation and imports declined from 1,237.1 million kWh in March 2025 to 1,205.8 million kWh in April 2025. During the same period, KPLC’s total sales increased from 932.3 million kWh to 933.3 million kWh.
Electricity exports decreased from 10.8 million kWh in March 2025 to 9.0 million kWh in April 2025, while imports rose from 120.8 million kWh to 131.6 million kWh.
The national average retail fuel prices in April 2025 were KSh 175.30 per litre for motor gasoline premium, KSh 165.64 per litre for light diesel oil, and KSh 149.78 per litre for illuminating kerosene.
Charcoal averaged KSh 86.72 per kilogram, while the price of a 13-kg LPG gas cylinder stood at KSh 3,156.19.
On the international market, the OPEC crude oil basket price declined from USD 74.00 per barrel in March 2025 to USD 68.98 per barrel in April 2025.
Value of building plans in Nairobi for April 2025
Meanwhile, KNBS revealed that the total value of building plans approved by Nairobi City County decreased from KSh 34.6 billion in March 2025 to KSh 10.2 billion in April 2025.
The value of approved residential building plans declined by 67.8 per cent to KSh 8.4 billion, while non-residential building plans recorded a 78.8 per cent decrease to KSh 1.8 billion.
In the tourism sector, data shows that the total number of visitor arrivals at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Moi International Airport (MIA), and other border points increased from 168,563 in March 2025 to 169,230 in April 2025.
During the same period, JKIA recorded a 4.7 per cent increase to 114,809 arrivals, other border points recorded a 10.9 per cent increase to 45,062, while MIA recorded a 48.7 per cent decline to 9,359.
