Moi University has come to issue a clarification following reports that it was asking students set to join them during the September intake to pay before they can download their admission letters.
The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) recently concluded placement for the September intake where over 6,700 students were selected to join the Uasin Gishu-based university.
But days after the KUCCPS results were realised, reports emerged that some learners had received messages asking them to pay a fee for their admission letters.
Did Moi University ask students to pay for admission letters?
Moi University has now clarified that the said messages were from fraudsters, not them.
In a statement posted on its social media pages, the institution noted that admission letters have not yet been released and that “any SMS or message claiming otherwise is fraudulent”.
“Moi University does NOT charge any fee to download or receive an admission letter,” it added.
The university further said that students set to join the institution will receive will receive detailed information via an official communication which will only sent via bulk SMS registered under the sender name Moi-Uni.
“We urge all prospective students and their guardians to be vigilant and to disregard any unofficial messages,” the institution said.
It further advised members of the public, parents and students to always refer to the official Moi University website and verified social media platforms for accurate updates related to the September intake.
