Samich ICT Centre In Chepkorio Now Operational

/

The County Government of Elgeyo Marakwet has officially opened the Samich ICT Centre in Chepkorio, a facility expected to expand community access to digital services.

The milestone will consequently empower youth with technological skills and strengthen service delivery through e-governance.

According to Edwin Seronei, the County Executive for Public Service, Administration and ICT, the facility will play a central role in bridging the digital divide in rural areas:

This is not just a building but a gateway to opportunities. Here, our youth will access digital skills, our people in general will connect to government services and our community will step boldly into the future of innovation” said Seronei.

The Samich ICT centre opened on September 17, 2025.

The event was also attended by area Member of County Assembly MCA John Kimeli who pledged to ensure the Assembly supported its expansion.

As leaders, we are committed to ensuring these centres are not only built but fully operationalised. I will personally champion for increased resources towards the operationalisation of the Nyaru ICT Centre so that more residents can benefit from digital services,” said the MCA.

In line with the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP III) and the Kenya Kwanza Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), ICT Centres are designed to promote digital inclusion, support job creation for youth through online work and provide accessible government services at the grassroots level.

These centers are critical enablers of innovation, entrepreneurship, and social inclusion across the county.

Other leaders present included ICT Chief Officer Daniel Kimutai, Keiyo South Sub-County Administrator Meshack Bowen and Chepkorio Ward Administrator Ms. Getrude Serem together with community representatives.

Kimutai said the County government was committed towards ensuring that all ICT centres across the county were well equipped, operational, and accessible to all residents.
